Like fish, it’s best to consume mushrooms as soon as possible to savour their peak flavour and texture.
Tips for storing and handling
- Store fresh mushrooms in a paper bag or breathable container in the refrigerator on the lowest shelf.
- Avoid storing them in plastic bags or airtight containers, as this can cause moisture buildup and accelerate spoilage.
- You can store fresh mushrooms in the refrigerator for up to five days at 3-5 C.
- When ready, brush off any dirt or debris and incorporate them into your favourite recipes.
- Washing mushrooms grown in a controlled environment is unnecessary – doing so will lead to rapid deterioration.
